A lot of different softwares can be used in making photorealistic games. This is because photorealistic games can have a lot of variety. No only a lot of software, but also a lot of different graphic techniques. A few graphic techniques that are used when making photorealistic games.
Motion capture can very advantageous. (See above image) Although motion capture very advantageous in the gaming industry and many others, there can be some disadvantages. One of the many disadvatages can be cost. The cost of motion capture software does not come cheaply, it also requires a lot of software to be able to capture the the movement of someone. Motion capture does not allow to capture of movement that doesn’t follow the laws of physics (flying, use of magic, etc).
While motion capture is very impressive, not everyone could afford it, so people have to use other softwares that will give them almost the same outcome.
Fuse is a software that allows people to make characters for a game that they could be making. People who don’t have a lot of money to spend on making games would use this kind of software. Games like Dead Realm use this software in particular.
For environments people can use all sorts of software. some softwares that can be used to animate and create environments are.
- Cinema 4D
- Unreal Engine
And many many others.
With Action Role-Playing games, they are normally Photorealistic. The reason behind this is that with the game being photorealistic it would make the player feel more like they’re in the game than if it was cel-shaded.
Not only does photorealism male the gameplay more enjoyable but it makes you feel as if you are there and you are living the story. The good thing about Action Role-Playing games is that they can work in any graphic styles. The only style it might not work in is abstract.
In the early 1980’s Action Role-Playing games were in the graphic style pixel. Games like the early legend of zelda series. Slowly over the years, different genres would evolve to use different graphics styles. Action Role playing games have evolved a lot over the years into many different graphic styles.
Most new Action Role-Playing games are photorealistic, games like Skyrim, Dark Souls and The Witcher. Although it has become less of a rarity, Cel-Shaded games still don’t come around often enough. Different graphic styles can attract different audiences. For instance, the pixel style may not attract younger audiences, the reason for this is because they didn’t play the old games like Mario and The Legend Of Zelda, of which were in the graphic style pixel.
A Cel-shaded game on the other hand may attract teen players because of the use of bright colours and the humour that usually comes with the games.
So with Cel-shaded, they use the bright colours in a way to try and attract audiences, Photorealism makes it look as realistic as possible as a way to attract people, because it makes them feel as if they are living the game they are playing in. (Photorealism, the future)
By having a game that minimises luck, it makes people keep on playing until they can beat the level they are on. And they will keep on paying it and redoing it until they can complete the game.
One of my main influences is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, I have many reasons behind this.
One if my reasons is the current civil war which is going on throughout Skyrim. The civil war between the Stormcloaks and Imperials gave me an idea of what i wanted to be happening in my game world.
I really liked the idea of a civil war so thats what gave me the idea for a clan war between Samurai, Ninja and mages. After looking at and playing a lot of Skyrim i knew that each can would need some sort of picture or symbol to show them. In Skyrim you have the ability to use magic, i also really liked this idea and wanted to incorporate something like this into my game. Although i want it to be way more specific. So iwant there to be a whole upgrade menu dedicated to the power of fire, a lot like Borderlands upgrade menus.
Another big influences of mine were The Witcher Games and also Dark Souls. The reason for this is because a lot of the time your not against people but rather against monsters and other such things. I liked this idea and decided to incorporate it into my game. I didn’t really want to have people fighting people a lot just in case of religious and ethical issues popping up.
